Notice of AGM – 24th April

The AGM will be held on 24th April at St Erme Community Centre, with the committee to attend from 1.30pm, and public welcome from 1.45pm.

2017 Champions

The Show has once again been a great success, under our President James Penrose, and Chairman, Stewart Ward.  The Committee are very grateful for the time and commitment of all our judges.  Our cattle judge this year was Mr D Gilder who travelled all the way from Cheltenham to be with us.

The Champion, sponsored by the Nare Hotel, was won by L Calcraft with “Dance Floor King”, a Belgian Blue cross Limousin cross steer, weighing 574kg and sold for £3.40/kg to the Chris Dale of Helston.

The Reserve Champion, sponsored by Mole Valley Farmers, was won by EA and DA Ellis of Lelant, with “Top Dolla”, a Belgian Blue cross Limousine cross heifer weighing 606kg and sold for £3.80/kg to Peter Morris of St Columb.

The Local Champion, sponsored by our auctioneers, Lodge and Thomas, was won by Claire Withers with “Top Totty” a British Blue cross British Blue cross weighing 590kg and sold for £3.50/kg to RJ Trevarthen.

The Reserve Local Champion, sponsored by R J Trevarthen, was won by T Penellum of St Newlyn East with “Whisper”, a Limousin cross steer weighing 682kg and sold for £3.90 to RJ Trevarthen.

The Champion Pair of Lambs, sponsored by Focus Farm Vets Ltd, was won by Mrs GB Renfree and family of Quethiock.

The Reserve Champion Pair of Lambs, sponsored by Hewaswater Scaffolding, was won by P and L Calcraft of Payhembury, Honiton.

Exciting lots in the fundraising auction

The Fund Raising Auction will be held at 2.15pm following the presentation of trophies and immediately preceding the auction of Show Cattle and Sheep.

The Society is immensely grateful to the generous donors for their support.  The proceeds are in aid of Society Funds towards the running of the Show.

The Evening Charity Auction at 7.30pm will see approx. 100 lots of vegetables, cakes and baked items, eggs, preserves etc. sold with proceeds in aid of the Chairman’s chosen Charities PCC (Parent Carer Council) & Ellie’s Haven.

The lots for the 2.15 auction are as follows:

Lot 8 15kg selection box of South Devon Beef from Mr/s Stewart & Sandra Ward.

Lot 9 Evening Duck Shoot for 6 people at Hembury Castle, Frithelstock, Torrington, Devon at a mutually agreed time in January 2018 From Mr Richard Goodburn  

 

Congratulations to Hewaswater Engineering

One of our key sponsors has won a significant award at the Cornwall Manufacturers Group annual event.

Managing Director – Richard James was awarded the Business Leadership prize the ceremony in Newquay.

In addition to this award Hewaswater were also short-listed in 3 other categories – Innovation, Manufacturer of the Year and Mikey Sherriff was nominated in the Apprentice category.

The committee of the Society would like to congratulate them on their success.

Succesful AGM

The Society enjoyed its AGM on 25th April at Probus Village Hall.  Outgoing President, HH Judge Harvey Clark, chaired the meeting, and even treated members to a musical rendition.  Incoming President, James Penrose, was welcomed in to his new post.

The outgoing Chairman, John Lamble, reflected on another great year for the show and the new Chairman, Stuart Ward, was elected for the 2017 show.

The Society were very sorry to loose Stephen Edmond from the committee due to work and family commitments in Devon, but were pleased to welcome Dan Nattle to the committee.

Chairman presents Charity cheques

Our Chairman, John Lamble, recently presented two charities with cheques for £440 each as a result of the fund raising activities of the society over the show period.

The money was split between the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution and RCHT Neo Natal Unit.

Nick Michell received the cheque on behalf of RABI.

Claire Tregonning, Senior Staff Nurse, Jess Milling, Staff Nurse, Julie Mills, Healthcare Assistant, and Jo Thompson & Chloe Barnes, Student Nurses, received the cheque on behalf of RCHT.
