About Us
Truro’s Annual Christmas Primestock Show had its 121st show in 2023. For the two decades from the millennium, it was held in a marquee on Lemon Quay in the City Centre. It became an established part of the city centre Christmas events season for a long time but as with many events, we continue to have to evolve, and since 2021 have held the event at Truro Cattle Market. It is always on the first Wednesday in December.
The Show has traditionally been a very popular event which for 20 years in recent history brought the countryside and farming right into the heart of the City. It was believed to be the only Primestock Show in Britain to be held in the centre of a city.
Up at the Market, visitors are still able to see at close hand the very best of Cornwall’s prime cattle and sheep exhibited , judged and then auctioned, as well as being able to admire a wonderful show of farm produce, cookery, preserves, floral art, photography, crafts and a host of other exhibits. There has always been a wonderful atmosphere in the marquee which is maintained at our current venue at the Market. Although 2023 continues to mean things are a little different this year, we continue to keep things under review. The timetable for day can be found here.
A highpoint of the Show’s recent history was in 2018 when we were delighted that HRH The Countess of Wessex GCVO was our President.
