About Us

Truro’s Annual Christmas Primestock Show is held in a marquee on Lemon Quay in the City Centre on the first Wednesday in December and is a favourite and is now an established part of the city centre Christmas events season.

A very popular event which brings the countryside and farming right into the heart of the City and it is believed to be the only Primestock Show in Britain to be held in the centre of a city, making the Truro Show a unique event.

Visitors are able to see at close hand the very best of Cornwall’s prime cattle and sheep exhibited , judged and then auctioned, as well as being able to admire a wonderful show of farm produce, cookery, preserves, floral art, photography, crafts and a host of other exhibits. There is always a wonderful atmosphere in the marquee which provides a unique opportunity to see show cattle and sheep literally within a few yards of many of Truro’s major shops and stores.

About our members

President for 2018 – HRH The Countess of Wessex GCVO
The Countess of Wessex was born Sophie Rhys-Jones in Oxford. Her Royal Highness grew up in Kent and was educated at Kent College School. Her early career was in public relations. She met Prince Edward at a real tennis event and they married at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on 19th June 1999, when they became The Earl and Countess of Wessex.

In March 2002 Their Royal Highnesses announced that they would give up their business activities in order to support The Queen during the Jubilee Year and beyond. They would concentrate on helping the Royal Family shoulder some of the increasing workload into the future, by supporting those organisations, charities, individuals and companies who deserve recognition for their effort, initiative and entrepreneurship. Now Her Royal Highness has a full programme of official engagements in the United Kingdom and abroad.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex have a home at Bagshot Park in Surrey, and have two children, Lady Louise born on 8th November 2003, and James, Viscount Severn, born on 17th December 2007.

Presidents Elect – Helen and Peter Thomas
Peter Thomas
Peter’s first real involvement with the Show was as the representative from Probus Y.F. C. He served on the committee for several years, becoming Chairman in his late 20s. It was somewhat of a family tradition his father having been President. Peter has happy memories of the days in the City Hall, and clearing the Hall for the Evening Dance.

He recalls that they often entered Cattle, Sheep and root crops. After several years, he came off the committee, believing it to be good to get different input from new committee members.

He says he has always had an interest in quality and pure bred livestock, and in recent years has focussed on poultry and eggs.

Helen Thomas: Helen’s first involvement was as a competitor in her Y.F.C. days, coming down to Truro with entries from Camelford Y.F.C. This was followed involvement with W.I. entries, this time for

St. Clement W.I. – After the children had grown up Helen got involved again, this time with the Floral Art section, and for several years has helped with that section.

Chairman for 2018 – Sean Preece

Show Secretary: Tanya Thomas. Tanya is now well established as Show Secretary having served on the Committee for several years. She is a local farmer’s wife with two children and she and her husband run a dairy and arable farm at Tresillian Near Truro. She is a Parish Councillor for St Michael Penkivel.

Show Treasurer – Adrian Rundle. Adrian is a senior Agricultural Manager with Lloyds Bank based in Truro. Adrian comes from a well known Newquay farming family noted for their prize winning South Devon Cattle. The Rundle family has been highly successful at shows both locally and nationally and Adrian regularly accompanies his father Roger to the shows where he assists in showing the cattle.
